Shabbat Services
Beginning September 2009, Temple Israel holds traditional Shabbat Services on Friday evening at either 6:00 pm or 7:30 pm
and on Saturday mornings at
10:30 am. This is to accommodate all Temple Israel congregants. To determine what time a service is being held, please consult THIS WEEK AT TEMPLE ISRAEL, found on the Calendar page.
Summer Shabbat Services, which have a more casual atmosphere, contemporary prayers and music, are held each Friday evening at 6:00 pm. Beginning in June through August, these services are usually held in the library.
Special Family Services are held each month, September through June. These services honor those children whose birthdays fall in that particular month.
High Holiday Services
Please call the Temple Office for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur tickets, service times and additional information.
Sukkot
Sukkot services are held erev Sukkot and the following morning. Adults and children alike participate in the assembling and decorating the congregational sukkah. A popular Sukkot celebration is pizza in the hut, where pizza is served prior to Sukkot Services.
Simchat Torah
A festive Family Simchat Torah service commemorates the giving of Torah to the Jewish people. Our service includes a klezmer band, and the unrolling of the Torah in order to surround the congregation with God’s words.
Hanukkah
While Hanukkah is primarily celebrated in the home, there is always The Night of 100 Menorahs celebrated at Temple Israel. Each family brings their own menorah to the sanctuary in a group lighting ceremony during Shabbat services. It is followed by a Brotherhood sponsored dinner of latkes and sufganyot (donuts). It is one of the most treasured and popular holiday traditions at Temple Israel.
Purim
Purim is a festive time at Temple Israel. The Book of Esther is read erev Purim in a service attended by young and old alike. If you haven't attended, you've never seen a Megillah reading like the one that our clergy puts together each year.
Passover
Passover services are held on the morning of the first day of Passover at 10:30 am. In addition, each year the Temple hosts a Passover Seder, led by our clergy on the holiday’s second night. Yizkor SERVICES are held on the seventh day of the holiday.
Yizkor Services
Yizkor services are held three times a year: The afternoon of Yom Kippur, the last day of Sukkot, and Passover.
