President's Message . . . November 2008
Whenever I think about the month of November, I always think about Thanksgiving. Coming at a time right after the Jewish New Year, it truly is a time to stop and reflect about all we are thankful for. I am reminded about how emotional I got this year during the concluding Yom Kippur service. Tears started streaming down my face, as I walked into the bimah with my family. (Much smaller this year as my two college kids could not come home) Thanksgiving will be our first opportunity to be together again, and I cannot wait! Obviously, family is something I am extremely thankful for!!!

I also am thankful for all of you, our congregants at Temple Israel. This has been a difficult year for many of us. We all have been affected one way or another by the challenging economic times we live in. We are a community here at Temple Israel. We are here for each other and when times get tough, this is a special place we can all come together.

Please join your TI family on November 7 as we officially welcome Rabbi Richard Chapin as our Rabbi. Reservations are being taken for a Shabbat Dinner prior to the service at the President Country Club. Details for the dinner are included in the Koleynu. We will then travel to the JCC for the 7:45 consecration service. I hope to see you all there!

Speaking of the JCC, November is Jewish Book month and I hope all of you will support the many fabulous programs the J has scheduled this month. November 19 is the JCC Book Luncheon where award-winning writers Alan Zweibel and Stephen Fried share their humorous observations and revelations about life and relationships. Please join me at what promises to be an interesting and fun luncheon. You can RSVP for the luncheon online at JCConline.com.

Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving,

Roslyn Leopold

The spread of malaria is preventable. By taking action, we can reverse this trend. Studies show that the use of insecticide-treated bed nets can reduce transmission as much as 90 %.

The solution is simple and cost-effective. A $10 donation goes directly towards the purchase, distribution, and education about the proper use of an insecticide-treated bed net. Join the Union for Reform Judaism in their fight against global poverty.

MAKE A DONATION. TAKE ACTION. MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
