Summer Jewish Experiences

Our congregation offers scholarship funds toward summer experiences such as attending Jewish camps and youth trips to Israel. We make every effort to insure that no one will be excluded from important summer experiences that will help strengthen their Jewish identity and create lasting Jewish memories solely because of finances. Past funding has come through the generosity of our Brotherhood, and the Youth Scholarship Fund. For more information, contact Julie Marsh at Temple.

Camp Coleman...Grades 3 - 12

Youth in grades 3-12 can take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to combine the excitement of outdoor activities with Jewish living. The Union for Reform Judaism (URJ), the umbrella of the Reform Movement, operates 12 outstanding summer camps throughout the country. Camp Coleman is our regional camp. From generation to generation, enriching Jewish lives since 1964, URJ Camp Coleman allows our children to live a wholly Jewish life while at camp. Campers can experience Jewish culture and tradition while in a safe, challenging and fun environment. In a natural setting, campers are given the opportunity to explore their Judaism. Coleman provides a creative setting for Jewish living and learning, through camp programming. At Camp Coleman campers and staff can develop lifelong friendships.

Kutz Camp Leadership Institute...Grades 9 - 12

The leadership academy is a unique program built to exclusively serve the needs and interests of high school students (applicants must be entering 9th through 12th grades). It takes place in a college campus environment at a camp in Warwick, New York. Teens from across North America, Israel and Europe come together in an informal environment of experiencing and learning. From boating to photography to creative worship services, a summer at Kutz provides a total Jewish social experience and will leave you with outstanding friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. For further information on the programs listed here or another NFTY summer program, please contact me and I will be happy to help you get a wonderful Jewish summer experience.

TIWPTY Kick-off = Field Day Madness
We meet out by the picnic tables and the track, a perfect place for us to spend the next two hours. The afternoon started with pizza (Thanks Big Apple Pizza!).

Following pizza, team spirit broke out amongst all of the participants from grades 5 to 12, a total of 31 teens to be exact!
We had the Green Machines with group leaders Sam Hoar and Sara Tasini, the Red Lobsters with Kiley Keslar, the Blue Comets with Ker en Eckstein, and the Yellow Guppies with Sophie Green. Each group leader strived to steer his/her team towards first place in competing in our craziest of games, the TIWPTY Wacky Olympics.
The weather was simply perfect for such an event. The most amazing thing to me though, was the transformation of the teens that started the afternoon eating their pizza quietly, then slowly warmed up as our four group leaders began the mingling process.

After lunch we had our mixer of “Baby, If you loved me you’d give me a smile”, which is one of the fastest ways to “break the ice”. The messiest and probably the most entertaining to watch was the chocolate pudding contest. Among many other amusing games were chubby bunny, a hula-hoop contest, and an Apache relay.
By the end of our kick-off event, all of the TIWPTY-ites were laughing, smiling, and having a great time. Most of the teens didn’t want to leave! I am looking forward to an amazing year of great, fun programs through TIWPTY!
